Ces “châteaux” s’imposent dans l’espace public comme signes extérieurs de réussite dans une communauté en pleine expansion. Malgré leur magnificence elles referment jalousement leurs secrets. Considérées comme sacrées, leur accès est en général interdit, leur contenu tenu confidentiel. Utilisées que lors des grands événements (naissances, mariages, funérailles), elle se doivent de rester dérobées. Ces palais ne servent que quelques mois dans l’année, et n’offrent généralement comme espace d’habitation que les sous-sols et les entresols (les espaces de réceptions ne servant que pour les cérémonies). Pour cette communauté, ces résidences témoignent du besoin de matérialiser leur appartenance et leur culture : un besoin de s’enraciner dans un territoire à travers ces maisons “de rêve”. L’homme nomade, sans territoire défini ni habitation fixe troque ainsi la tente ou la caravane contre une habitation solidement ancrée dans un territoire. Il existe une zone de transition entre le sédentarisme et le nomadisme dans laquelle le concept de « chez soi » se matérialise à travers d’autres mediums : quand on est en mouvement ceci n’exclue pas l’existence d’un logis, d’un lieu d’ancrage. La vie d’un chauffeur de longue-course peut être facilement comparée à celle d’un escargot, qui porte sa vie et sa maison sur son dos. D’où la nécessité de créer un « chez soi » transportable, afin que solitudes et absences répétées soient mieux supportées. Se sentir perpétuellement « chez soi » mais être en même temps ailleurs, donner de l’importance au « contenant » (habitat/maison/gîte) en étroite liaison avec « le contenu » (ses désirs profonds, sa croyance) quelles que soient les conditions de vie, s’avère essentiel. L’identité de ce groupe, forgée dans la tradition et la religion, est empreinte d’un grand sens communautaire. Les maisons bulgares sont construites pour remplir principalement un rôle fonctionnel mais comprennent également des pièces, dont le seul but est cérémoniel : de véritables sanctuaires. La mise en scène autour des lits et des tables exprime les valeurs chères à chaque famille, qui sont liées à leur tour aux valeurs de l’ensemble du groupe. Build on a makeshift grid of metal and cardboard, the headdress acquires a volumetric sculptural status and the fact of haloing on the head makes it more imposing. The powerfully colored and shiny headdress acts as a heavy golden helmet to wear. With a history of almost a century and a half, composed of meticulously embroidered and hand-woven elements, with gold thread inserts, the traditional female costume is entirely designed and created by the women of the family to be part of the dowry and supposed to be inherited from generation to generation. The village of Dudeștii-Vechi is the modest home of a small community known as the Palćene or Bulgarians from Banat in Romania. The identity of this group, forged in tradition and religion, is imbued with a great community spirit, and their traditional feminine costume represents a peculiar approach. Adapting and using different mediums allowed me to work inter alia with cyanotype on cotton treads in order to unfold one more time a human story, that served as a universal symbol of the fleeting nature of human condition. Cotton spools, that once served as working tools, were used as my surface material for my photo process. I’ve highlighted the unrolling of a human story by singling out individual portraits from a collective photo, in order to recreate a presence that has disappeared several generations ago. EN Guided by the collective aesthetics of urban areas, the Light up my City series observes the visual aspects of community neighbourhoods, notably by the repetition of specific lighting boxes. These signs seem to define the visual identity of the artist’s hometown, which is in the midst of wholescale cultural and economic expansion. The clustered and seemingly random urban plan dedicated to gaming and betting locales is fascinating. Positioned in strategic and visible places in multiple areas of the urban space, they seem to redefine values and lifestyle.
