Developed during my residency at the historic Ankerbrot-Fabrik in Vienna, this site-specific project unearths local industrial heritage within the space of Charim Gallery. Inspired by the archival history of Ankerbrot, the work examines the intersecting values of human existence and the tradition of bread.
Central to this body of work is the human presence that animated the factory throughout its history. Drawing on archival imagery, I merge two distinct temporal layers: the first generation of factory workers and the final generation of bread produced within these walls.
Here, bread becomes a poignant metaphor for human existence—traversing its own lifecycle of freshness, maturity, dryness, and eventual decay.
